Education & Training Programs
Educating and training the next generation of empirical social and behavioral scientists has always been integral to ISR's mission. Over the years, the breadth and depth of training opportunities have expanded for those who are interested in becoming social scientists.
SRC Summer Institute in Survey Research Techniques
The SRC Summer Institute seeks to provide rigorous and high quality graduate training in all phases of survey research. The program teaches state-of-the-art practice and theory in the design, implementation, and analysis of surveys. The Summer Institute uses the sample survey as the basic instrument for the scientific measurement of human activity. Summer Institute courses are designed to meet the educational needs of those specializing in social and behavioral research such as professionals in business, public health, natural resources, law, medicine, nursing, and social work.
ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research
The ICPSR Summer Program provides a comprehensive, integrated program of studies in research design, statistics, data analysis, social methodology, and basic methodological and technical training, along with opportunities for advanced work in specialized areas. The Program also provides active participatory data analytic experiences that complement formal lectures and discussions.
Population Studies Center Training
The Population Studies Center (PSC) is a research and training center within the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. The Center administers a large training program for both predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars in which PSC training faculty teach a broad range of specialized demographic courses. Our roster of current graduate student research interests offers a sense of the breadth of social science topics studied.
Program in Survey Methodology
The University of Michigan Program in Survey Methodology, established in 2001, seeks to train future generations of survey methodologists. The program offers doctorate and master of science degrees and a certificate through the University of Michigan. The Program in Survey Methodology brings together faculty and scientists from the social and behavioral sciences in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts; the School of Public Health; and the Institute for Social Research. Moreover, the quantitative strengths of disciplines such as communication studies, economics, education, political science, psychology, sociology, and statistics are integral to the empirical underpinnings of the program.
