Two ISR faculty members named Distinguished University Professors

ANN ARBOR — Two faculty members affiliated with the Institute for Social Research have been approved as Distinguished University Professors by the University of Michigan’s Board of Regents.
Deborah Loewenberg Ball and Robert M. Sellers were among a group of six faculty members to receive the honor, which was announced Thursday, July 18. The appointments will take effect on Sept. 1 and will last through Ball and Sellers’ period of active service to the university.
Ball, named the Jessie Jean Storey-Fry Distinguished University Professor of Education, is a research professor at ISR’s Survey Research Center. In Jan. 2023, Ball was appointed to the White House National Science Board.
Sellers, named James S. Jackson Distinguished University Professor of Psychology, is a faculty associate in ISR’s Research Center for Group Dynamics. Sellers was previously appointed as the University of Michigan’s first chief diversity officer in 2016.
