John Bound

John Bound studies economic, demographic and policy influences on the labor force participation and health status of older people in the United States. He has worked on the reliability and validity of survey measures of health and was an early contributor to the research showing disability declines among the elderly. In other work, Dr. Bound contributed to the evidence that an important influence on the demand for skilled labor within the U.S. is technological change. His recent research has also included studies on racial differences in earnings, employment, and health and changes in the returns to higher education. Dr. Bound is the director of the Michigan Center for the Demography of Aging (MICDA) there. He is a Faculty Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), affiliated with the Labor Studies, and Education and Aging programs.
