The Strength of Social Norms Across Cultures: Implications for Intercultural Conflict and Cooperation
I will work with Dr. Michele Gelfand on the project on The Strength of Social Norms Across Cultures: Implications for Intercultural Conflict and Cooperation. I will conduct a series of cross-cultural event-related potential (ERP) studies and develop a new neural measure of detection of norm violation and use the measure to test specific predictions regarding how cultural looseness and tightness would influence psychological responses to the detection of norm violation.
I will help design the studies, organize data collection effort at the University of Michigan by closely supervising graduate and undergraduate research assistants who participate in the project, and coordinate the activity at Michigan with activities at other sites including the University of Maryland and a German research site.
