Data & Methods
The Norwegian Social Science Data Services (NSD) is responding to the Research Council of Norway's Infrastructure call, for the funding of a major upgrade of their services as a national archive for research data. The aim of the National Open Research Data Infrastructure (NORD-i) project is to establish a new and more user-friendly and trusted data management system, overcoming current barriers and accommodating the needs of both researchers and research funding institutions. In addition NSD's work as national repository manager and an infrastructure for open access to data resources will benefit from new technical solutions and procedures established.
Like NSD, ICPSR provides data services to its member institutions in the U.S. and abroad. ICPSR recently deployed openICPSR, an open access data repository service with a new interface for researchers depositing data, and ICPSR is constantly improving its data management, curation, and preservation services. To support NSD in this project, ICPSR will participate as a consulting partner to provide advice on the design of a self-service data deposit system including the capture of metadata about deposited objects. ICPSR will share its experience in the design and operation of openICPSR and continuing efforts to improve its services to data providers and data users.
