ANN ARBOR — Can marriage be a benefit to a mother’s mental health?

That’s the question Dr. Sangeetha Madhavan attempts to answer on the latest episode of The Abstract, a podcast from the Institute for Social Research.

Dr. Sangeetha Madhavan is professor and chair of African American Studies and professor of sociology at the University of Maryland. She presented recently as a part of the Population Studies Center’s Brown Bag Series, delivering a lecture titled “Is Marriage Good for Maternal Mental Health: New Evidence from Nairobi, Kenya.”
Madhavan says the quick answer to the big question of her talk is yes, but it’s more complicated than a simple yes or no. Listen to the full episode of The Abstract here to learn more about how marriage can affect a mother’s mental health.
