ICPSR Receives Award to Provide Dataset Communicating Public Library Programming Outcomes

ANN ARBOR ‒ The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) is pleased to announce an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) award to aggregate and disseminate a one-of-a-kind dataset documenting public library programming outcomes.
Funded under the National Leadership Grants for Libraries program, this effort is a collaborative venture between ICPSR, the Public Library Association, the University of Missouri’s School of Information Science and Learning Technologies, and the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services. Increasingly, public libraries provide a variety of non-traditional services and serve as a form of civic infrastructure. For the next two years, under the leadership of ICPSR, project partners will pool their resources to gather data enabling researchers to understand the impact that library programming has on communities.
Project activities will include: curating data to augment the IMLS Public Library Survey, helping administrators make better programming decisions, prototyping a new model of data governance, and developing resources and training to improve data use and literacy in the library field.
