ANN ARBOR — The Institute for Social Research’s Stephanie Fryberg will be named to the Academy of Arts and Sciences for her contributions to her scholarly and professional fields.

Fryberg, a professor of psychology in U-M’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, holds an appointment within ISR’s Research Center for Group Dynamics (RCGD). She is one of seven U-M faculty members to be named to the Academy of Arts and Sciences. Her research focuses on social representations of race, culture, and social class and how they impact the development of self, psychological well-being, physical health, and educational attainment. Her high-impact research has drawn national attention, including the opportunity to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Indian Affairs regarding the impact of racist stereotypes on Indigenous people.
