I am thrilled to announce that ICPSR at the University of Michigan Institute for Social Research (ISR) is a recipient of the 2019 National Medal for Museum and Library Service. Each year, the Institute of Museum and Library Services recognizes five museums and five libraries across the country for their exceptional contributions to their communities.
Selected from 30 national finalists, the 2019 National Medal for Museum and Library Service winners represent institutions that provide dynamic programming and services that exceed expected levels of service. Through their community outreach, these institutions bring about change that touches the lives of individuals and helps communities thrive.
“Our receipt of this recognition is a tribute to the vision of our founder, Warren Miller,” said ICPSR Director Maggie Levenstein. “That vision was about creating fair and transparent data about political, social, and economic behavior and making it useful and accessible so that we would have a more informed and grounded social science and more informed and grounded populace.”
This is a fitting recognition of the role ICPSR has played as a leader in public access to social science data over six decades. “Many libraries look to ICPSR for leadership and guidance in preserving and making accessible data resources. ICPSR is a leader in responsible data stewardship and evidence building, both in its own practice and the model it provides to the broader community.” said U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, D-Dearborn.
The award will be presented at an event in Washington, D.C., on June 12.
I invite you to join us in celebrating this important honor by signing this congratulatory card. You can watch our announcement and celebration ceremony on Facebook, and see photos surrounding the honor.
