Elizabeth “Libby” Douvan Junior Scholars Fund in Life Course Development

The Elizabeth Douvan Junior Scholar Fund in Life Course Development was established to honor Libby Douvan’s life and work. It encourages research agendas in Life Course Development and supports junior researchers in the departments where Libby was actively involved.

Elizabeth “Libby” Douvan, a distinguished faculty member at the University of Michigan, joined in 1950 as a lecturer and made significant contributions throughout her career. She played a key role in founding the Women’s Studies Program and was a pioneer in the Institute for Social Research Survey Research Center, becoming the first female member of the research faculty. Libby’s scholarship covered various topics, including family roles, mental health, the changing American family, female development, conflict resolution, and adolescent development. She was known for her expertise and caring nature in supporting researchers during this crucial stage of their careers.

The goal of the Elizabeth Douvan Junior Scholar Fund is to support the research and training activities of junior researchers, honoring Libby’s legacy and her dedication to fostering the growth and success of scholars in the field of Life Course Development

Expectation

  • At the one year mark, you will be asked to share an update about the status of your research.
  • In publications and presentations, acknowledge ISR and this award’s support.
  • Awards are intended for use within one year, but may be extended upon request for an additional six months

Eligibility and Scope

  • University of Michigan graduate students, post doctoral candidates, and junior faculty members with research agendas in Life Course Development
  • Deadline: February 11, 2025
  • Award Amount: $11,000
