Angus Campbell Scholars Fund

The Angus Campbell Scholars Fund provides research support to a University of Michigan graduate student who is conducting research dealing with quality of life and psychological well-being.

Angus Campbell was a distinguished researcher and academic who dedicated his career to survey research and the study of quality of life. He served as the first director of the Survey Research Center and later became the director of the Institute for Social Research. Campbell’s notable research covered topics such as voting behavior, social change, and the determinants of quality of life. Campbell, along with colleagues Philip Converse and Willard Rodgers, published the influential work “The Quality of American Life: Perceptions, Evaluations, and Satisfactions” in 1976. This book examined how Americans perceive and evaluate their own quality of life. Shortly before his death in 1981, Campbell published “The Sense of Well-Being in America: Recent Patterns and Trends,” which explored changing trends in Americans’ well-being.

Expectations

  • At the one-year mark, recipients will be asked to share an update about the status of their research.
  • In publications and presentations, recipients must acknowledge ISR and this award’s support.
  • Awards are intended for use within one year, but may be extended upon request for an additional six months

Eligibility and Scope

  • Graduate students at the University of Michigan
  • Conduct research pertaining to the quality of life or psychological well-being
  • Deadline: February 11, 2025
  • Award Amount: $11,000
