Vincent Hutchings named a U-M Distinguished University Professor

ANN ARBOR — The University of Michigan board of regents has named Vincent L. Hutchings a Distinguished University Professor. Hutchings, a research professor at the Institute for Social Research’s (ISR) Center for Political Studies (CPS) is one of six U-M faculty members to receive this prestigious honor this year.
Hutchings has been a member of the U-M political science department since 1992, researching American racial and ethnic politics in his long and well-decorated career. In recognition of that career, he has now been named the Hanes Walton Jr. Distinguished University Professor of Political Science and Afroamerican and African Studies. In 2023, Hutchings received the American Political Science Association’s Hanes Walton, Jr. Award for his career-long contributions to research in his field.
In his work at ISR, Hutchings researches public opinion, elections and voting behavior through the lens of African American politics, including studies on how well members of Congress represent the interests of their Black constituents.
