Social Science and Journalism fellow to make first campus visit

ANN ARBOR — The 2026-27 James S. House and Wendy Fisher House Social Science and Journalism Fellow will make her first visit to the University of Michigan campus in September.
Allison M.N. Archer, an associate professor in the University of Houston’s department of political science and its school of communication, will be in Ann Arbor for the first of eight visits during the fall and winter academic terms.
Archer received her undergraduate degree from Emory University and completed her graduate and doctoral studies at Vanderbilt University. Her primary research interests focus on the intersection of political forces and public trust, examining how things like elections and political rhetoric affect voters, their news consumption, and their political leanings.
While at Michigan, Archer will embed in ISR’s interdisciplinary research community, engaging with the Wallace House Center for Journalists. Her work will include collaboration with social scientists and journalists, including the James S. House and Wendy Fisher House Journalism and Social Science Fellow, Matt Fuchs. Fuchs, a science and health journalist, is studying how science is reshaping conceptions of middle age during his fellowship at U-M.
The Fellowship is made possible by a generous contribution from James S. House and Wendy Fisher House. The effort to establish the Schoeni Professorship was spearheaded by James S. House, and his wife, Wendy Fisher House. James is a former SRC Director and Angus Campbell Distinguished University Professor Emeritus; Wendy is a clinical psychologist who began her career conducting research at the University of Michigan.
