BIO
Henning Silber is a Research Assistant Professor in the Survey Methodology Program, located within the Survey Research Center at the Institute for Social Research on the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (U-M) campus. He earned his PhD from the University of Göttingen (Germany) in 2015 and completed his Habilitation at the University of Mannheim (Germany) in 2023. Before that, he received a Magister in Sociology and German Philology from the University of Göttingen in 2011. His PhD studies were supported by Fellowships from the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes) and the FAZIT Foundation. After completing his PhD, he worked as a Postdoc and then a Team Leader in Survey Operations in the Department of Survey Methodology at GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences in Mannheim. He has been invited as a visiting scholar to Stanford University, the University of Texas at Austin, Utrecht University, and the University of Chicago. He was a Fulbright Research Scholar at the Department of Public Administration at the University of Illinois at Chicago (USA). Since January 2023, Henning serves on the Conference Committee of the World Association for Public Opinion Research (WAPOR). Previously, he was WAPOR’s Secretary-Treasurer (2017-2020) and Publications Committee Chair (2021-22). His research interests include survey methodology, political sociology, and the experimental social sciences. In his spare time, he plays competitive chess. He lives in Ann Arbor with his wife and daughter.
