We remain committed to maximizing the social good produced by collaborative, open, and equitable data sharing. Our researchers are working tirelessly to preserve and expand access to datasets that provide impactful insights across a variety of populations and topics, continuing our legacy of data stewardship.
Through DataLumos, an ICPSR archive for valuable government data resources, we’re working to preserve, document, and disseminate thousands of files from agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control and the Department of Education. Explore our DataLumos archive >
Donate to Support Data Preservation and Access
Now, more than ever, philanthropic support is essential. The ICPSR consortium has been using its funds to support data rescue, but preserving these data and making them accessible requires additional resources. For example, a thousand dollars covers the cost of taking a rescued data set and creating basic documentation to make it findable and reusable. Simply storing a terabyte of data to professional preservation standards costs $1,700 per year. Please consider supporting the DataLumos Fund to ensure we can continue this important work.
Assist with Metadata Efforts
High-quality metadata is crucial to data access. By accurately describing key characteristics of datasets, we enable researchers to effectively find, understand, and utilize data. Please consider volunteering to assist with our metadata efforts.
We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have experience with the following datasets:
- Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)
- American Time Use Survey (ATUS)
- Youth Risk Behavior Surveillance System (YRBSS)
To volunteer, please reach out to [email protected] and let us know what datasets you can support.
