ANN ARBOR — A new book from an Institute for Social Research (ISR) faculty member is offering new tools for managing your emotional life.
“Shift: Managing Your Emotions — So They Don’t Manage You” is the latest offering from Ethan Kross, a faculty associate at the Research Center for Group Dynamics (RCGD). In this new work, Kross uses new research with real-life stories from people working to manage their emotions, demonstrating how to use the feelings we all feel to be healthier and more successful.
Shift dovetails with Kross’s ongoing research into the mechanisms of emotional regulation and their translational implications. Specifically, this book works to dispel common myths about emotion and how they work, suggesting new ways to shift emotions so that they can’t take control.
Kross is taking part in two upcoming events related to the book, both of which will happen in Ann Arbor on Thursday, February 6. The first is a conversation with Monica Worline, the faculty director of the Center for Positive Organizations, at the Robertson Auditorium at the Ross School of Business from 3-4 p.m.. That will be followed by a conversation with Michigan Public’s April Baer at the Ann Arbor District Library from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
“Shift: Managing Your Emotions — So They Don’t Manage You” is available for pre-order now, both in hardcover and paperback editions.
